This week Apple released the first update of iOS 5 which allowed users to install the new version of the operating system directly from their devices. If you have not yet updated to iOS 5.0.1 from iOS 5 then most certainly that you have badge displayed in the upper right of the Settings application, badge which will warn that you have an OTA update undone.

I saw that many asking about a way that could get the badge out of there but unfortunately this is now impossible to do without jailbreak. Apple does not offer an opportunity to close the application’s badge so the only way to get rid of it is to make the OTA update at iOS 5.0.1 or to install iOS 5.0.1 through iTunes.

If you have jailbreak on your device then the elimination of badge is quite simple by installing the BadgeClear’s tweak from Cydia. Once you install it you will have the option to remove that badge along with any others displayed by your applications and theoretically it should not appear unless Apple launch iOS 5.0.2 through OTA update. This is the only way you can get rid of that badge, and unfortunately it does not work on the iPhone 4S where you do not have jailbreak.
