This week Apple released the first update of iOS 5 which allowed users to install the new version of the operating system directly from their devices. If you have not yet updated to iOS 5.0.1 from iOS 5 then most certainly that you have badge displayed in the upper right of the Settings application, badge which will warn that you have an OTA update undone.

I saw that many asking about a way that could get the badge out of there but unfortunately this is now impossible to do without jailbreak. Apple does not offer an opportunity to close the application’s badge so the only way to get rid of it is to make the OTA update at iOS 5.0.1 or to install iOS 5.0.1 through iTunes.

If you have jailbreak on your device then the elimination of badge is quite simple by installing the BadgeClear’s tweak from Cydia. Once you install it you will have the option to remove that badge along with any others displayed by your applications and theoretically it should not appear unless Apple launch iOS 5.0.2 through OTA update. This is the only way you can get rid of that badge, and unfortunately it does not work on the iPhone 4S where you do not have jailbreak.

Apple is testing Siri on the iPhone 4 but the assistant will not get on the old devices of the Cupertino company. Well today I will say that iOS 5.0.1 beta found information that Apple employees imply that Siri testing on iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad tablet.

Given the availability of information you think that Apple is already preparing the launch of Siri Assistant for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad tablet, right? Well no, because although Apple employees test Siri on various iDevice, the assistant will not reach on old terminals because Apple wants to offer exclusively on iPhone 4S.

It seems that Apple is preparing some interesting things for Siri and A4 chip is not powerful enough to run the assistant without any problems. Siri now works without the slightest problem on iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 4 and many find it hard to believe that the future will not involve the assistant Siri’s in iDevice.

Well it seems that you have to get used to the fact that Siri will not get on the old devices without jailbreak and it is possible that in the future to implement new features that Apple will not run on the A4 chip from iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 4.

iOS 5 has brought very many changes for users and developers, but a good portion of them were presented by Apple. One very important has to do with how the application saves the data in cache and how the cache is deleted. Apple has iOS 5 removal system cache automatically when the available space from our device falls below a certain value. When that value is reached, the system goes off and deletes all the cache with all data from it. With iOS 5 this does not happen and in cache were stored important data and saved by Instapaper, for example, to read offline.

A common scenario: an Instapaper customer is stocking up an iPad for a long flight. She syncs a bunch of movies and podcasts, downloads some magazines, and buys a few new games, leaving very little free space.

Basically iOS 5 delete all the cache along with data from device when the available space reaches a certain value. In iOS 5 Apple solved the problem by giving users the developers can mark certain files so that removal system to move over them and leave them in the system. Change is important because in applications such as Instapaper saved articles will remain there but the same little thing is going to happen and many other data available in our iDevice.
