Adobe has officially announced today that it will give up providing flash dedicated support for mobile devices. This announcement left without support tens or hundreds of millions of smart mobile phones that are running recent versions of flash developed by Adobe. The company says it will now focus on developing programs that will allow developers to publish their work in any App Store in the world, ie programs that will convert Flash content in HTML 5 and other formats such works on iOS.

Our future work with Flash on mobile devices will be focused on enabling Flash developers to package native apps with Adobe AIR for all the major app stores. We will no longer adapt Flash Player for mobile devices to new browser, OS version or device configurations.

I do not know if you noticed or not but lately flash content was most often used for banner advertising on sites and not for the content itself. For us this is great news because Adobe finally announced death for mobile devices flash but it will come gradually and will take several years. For those with Android or Blackberry OS is bad news because of their dedicated flash will not be improved but will only be updated to address issues of functionality and vulnerabilities.
