Windows Mobile: Where can I download applications for my phone ?

Although Google has built a great challenge in the market for mobile operating systems by introducing Android, a leader is still, Symbian was probably due primarily partnership with Nokia. However, the rise of new rivals appear to be so rapid that it is likely soon to have a different ranking. One of the suitors “the shadow” of the top spot promises to be none other than Windows Mobile 7.
This is one of the first questions that you ask a person who bought a Windows Mobile phone. To come to their help, I made a list of the most famous sites in the field. Order they are presented is the order in which I recommend to visit.

1. XDA-Developers
It is the largest community of developers and users Windows Mobile. Find here applications, skins, ROMs and information for almost all (maybe all) Windows Mobile handsets. All applications are available free (you can make a donation if you want and appreciate a particular application).

2. Freeware Pocket PC
Collection of free applications for Windows Mobile, organized in categories and very easy to use. I wrote about them when they released the official application that allows browsing and installing applications on your phone.

3. Marketplace for Mobile
Marketplace Microsoft official site. It was released much later than was the case and the number of applications is quite small. The fact that we live in Romania brings another disadvantage, not being able to buy applications. Worth a look and free applications here, even if XDA and PPC Freeware are much better in this respect.

4. HTC Club
If you prefer a Romanian community, you can try HTC Club. Number of members is quite small, but there are certainly some applications and will find someone to answer your questions.

About these would be sites for free applications. If you search the net you will find plenty of sites with applications, most clones of the above. In terms of applications for money, the situation is slightly complicated and you have one option: to buy them directly from the vendor’s site.

Windows Live Writer for Windows Mobile

Few are those who do not know what it is and not using Windows Live Writer, the most popular desktop blogging client, the Microsoft brand. In fact, WLW is the only blogging client that supports multiple platforms (all of blogging …) such as WordPress site, Blogspot site (or Blogger), Live Journal etc.

For “moving” of the blogging client we have very good news, considering that recently, at the request of Microsoft Czech Republic, people from CodePlex (Open Source Community) have launched the Beta version of Windows Live Writer for Windows Mobile . This version is compatible with Windows Mobile 6 or newer versions, and although it is currently, given the status of Beta, only supports English and Czech language.

Microsoft My Phone for your Windows Mobile

Microsoft My Phone is a free application for Windows Mobile that helps you keep your data from your mobile phone (pictures, messages, music, videos, contacts, etc..) in your My phone account, which can be accessed via computer or simply by the phone.

Also, the mobile phone will be synchronized with your computer so you can manage information / data from them directly on site using your computer myphone.microsoft.com.

ArkSwitch is one and the most suitable application for task management on mobile phones with Windows Mobile operating system. This application provides a complete management of applications and help you optimize the phone’s operating system.

ArkSwitch application was designed specifically for WM6.5.3, but it can also be used on smartphones with WM 6.5. The only problem is the lack of application in WM 6.5 application launch button at the top of the home screen. Spb Pocket Plus for Windows Mobile

Occupant first place, Spb Pocket Plus can not be described as a product, but more like a suite of programs designed to increase the productivity of working with a Pocket PC. The latest version, 4.0 brings a Today screen plugin for creating tabs with shortcuts to installed programs and useful information, additional features for Internet Explorer and File Explorer, task manager close button for applications running smart battery indicator on the homepage and scrolling (scroll-style iPhone).

Spb Pocket Plus is an award-winning program from Microsoft as the best application for Windows Mobile.

Opera Mobile for Windows Mobile

As is expected on a Windows Mobile phone is Internet Explorer the default Web browser. However there are a lot of browsers for the Windows Mobile platform, one that stands out Opera Mobile and Opera Mini. The first is a browser to copy the desktop version, so we have support for tabs and a powerful rendering engine.

Opera Mini is a client server version, where the user requested pages are first processed by a server, being served a much reduced scale version formatted for the screen phone. Opera Mini is ideal for those who do not want to spend too much money on subscription data of the mobile operator, but I want to stay connected permanently.

Agile Messenger for Windows Mobile

It was a pity that one of the most common PC activities, chat, are not represented on smart phones. Agile Messenger is the most popular instant messaging program, being able to connect to the networks of MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and Google Talk.
In addition to sending text message, Agile Messenger does all the sharing of photos and video clips, conversation and support for Push to Talk. Agile Messenger is available for Windows Mobile, Symbian S60, UIQ and Sony Ericson J2ME.

TCPMP Player for Windows Mobile

For some business functions and office prevail on a smartphone or PDA Phone. To me matters and the media, so it is essential a decent player, who knows how many video and audio formats.

Such a best player, TCPMP (The Core Pocket Media Player), was abandoned, but it can still be downloaded for free. His successor, the money is Core Player. Among other functions are supported by TCPMP audio equalizer, how benchmarks can change orientation Clip run pixel format, zoom, playback speed and so on and support for playlists. TCPMP is available for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone.

The plugins can add DivX and AC3 support.

Total Commander for Windows Mobile

Although it is a pretty old application, Total Commander is the best file manager for Windows Mobile. Far exceeds anything that can provide File Explorer, Microsoft provided the default application for file management.

It makes no sense to list all the functions supported by Total Commander, but it bears noting FTP client, registry editor, media archiving / extracting zip and configurable menu bar.

Total Commander is available for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Smartphone.

Adobe Reader Pocket PC for Windows Mobile

What good would be a smart phone if we can not read PDFs on it, whether it’s ebook, be it a manual EDC (Electronic Devices and Circuits), for an examination not we feel very prepared.

As expected, Adobe, creator of PDF, Adobe Reader for Pocket PC provides an application with features that rival desktop version, used on most of our PCs.

For Windows Mobile Smartphone freeware options exist, one of them is Smartphone PDF viewer.
